Communications and Awareness Intern

The Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndromes (SADS) Foundation Mission is to save the lives of children and young adults who are genetically predisposed to sudden death due to heart rhythm abnormalities. The SADS Foundation provides education and support to patients and families who are dealing with these conditions. We also distribute educational materials to hospitals, community centers, health care clinics, schools and libraries as well as sponsor educational programs for physicians and healthcare providers nationwide to raise awareness about the symptoms of these conditions and how to prevent and treat them.

Position Overview

Do you have an interest in working in nonprofit or health communications – and want to work with a passionate team to help make a difference for families impacted by rare heart diseases?

The SADS Foundation is looking for a Communications and Awareness Intern to work with our Communications Director on our rapidly growing social media platforms. If you have experience in social media marketing, this is a great opportunity to learn more about nonprofit and/or healthcare communications. 

We’re looking for someone who wants to help us continue to grow our social media presence, including scheduling our weekly content and engaging with our social media audiences. And we want to hear YOUR ideas about how we can keep growing our online presence.


  1. Assist in maximizing SADS Foundation’s social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, YouTube):  
    1. Assist in creating engaging content (both written and graphic) to be shared on social media channels
    2. Engage with SADS social media audiences by responding to comments, posting interactive stories, and finding sharable content
    3. Assist Communications Director by scheduling Hootsuite content weekly content
    4. Research best practices and trends for social media engagement; bring new ideas to the table to try in social media marketing
    5. Help monitor and report analytics within social media campaigns
    6. Help maintain and organize Canva library
    7. Various communications tasks and projects as assigned
  2. Participate in staff huddles (via Slack – online video calls) 1 time a week
  3. Assist staff and volunteers with other projects as needed

Commitment of 15 hours a week


This is a mostly virtual position. Candidates from the Salt Lake City, Utah area highly preferred as onboarding will most likely be done in-person in Holladay, Utah.


  • Social media knowledge and experience, especially knowledge of Instagram and Facebook (Meta Business Suite)
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Graphic design experience a plus (especially in Canva) 
  • Background and/or interest in health education or nonprofit communications preferred 
  • Some college preferred
